C4C Helps Sustain BVSD Trip Tracker

BOULDER, COLORADO – March 3, 2016 – Cyclists 4 Community has granted $1,000 to the Boulder Valley School District Trip Tracker program, in support of its efforts to reduce car traffic in front of schools, making the world safer for bikers and walkers. C4C board members Russ Chandler and Jens Husted presented Trip Tracker director Peter Hurst with a check on March 3rd in front of Centennial Middle School. TT_Combo (small)

“These funds could not have come at a better time for us,” said Hurst.  “Because of the popularity of the program this year, we’d exhausted our school year funds. This grant helps close the gap on our 2015-16 budget shortfall and allows us to continue to operate through the end of the school year.”

Trip Tracker encourages BVSD students, as well as St. Vrain Valley students, to walk, bike, ride the RTD or school bus or carpool to school. The program rewards students for ‘car-free’ commuting with Trip Tracker dollars that they can use like cash at over 60 local businesses. These generous businesses are then reimbursed at 50 cents on the dollar.  The program has been credited with reductions of between 100,000 and 200,000 car trips to school per year.

Although the funds from C4C help, the program is sustained primarily through a much larger amount of private donations, and needs to raise an additional $12,000 in funds in order to continue to sustain the program at the current level of participation. Donations can be made directly to Trip Tracker at http://www.bvsd.org/transportation/toschool/tracker/Pages/Trip-Tracker-Funding.aspx.
